Significant growth of Iran’s exports to Russia

Iran significantly increased its exports to Russia during 2018.

According to a report from the Import and Export News website, citing ISNA, statistics released by the Trade Promotion Organization show that Iran’s exports to Russia grew by 36% in comparison to the previous year.

The data reveals that in 2018, Iran exported $533 million worth of goods to Russia, compared to $392 million in 2017.

As in previous years, Iran’s main exports to Russia consisted of agricultural products, with the key items in 2018 being pistachios, raisins, dates, apples, cucumbers, and tomatoes.

Meat and dairy products were also included in this list, with Iranian fish, shrimp, milk, and cheese gaining a significant presence in trade with Russia.

Other goods exchanged between the two countries included transportation equipment like vessels, cement, plastic, and chemical products.

The Trade Promotion Organization also reported that, based on agreements between the two countries and the elimination of the US dollar from transactions, the use of national currencies in trade between Iran and Russia saw a notable increase. Additionally, the total trade volume between the two countries grew by 2%, reaching over $1.74 billion.

The latest statistics on Iran’s exports indicate that a significant portion of its international trade is with neighboring countries, with Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, and Russia being Iran’s main trading partners.

Iran is seeking to increase its chances of entering these markets by joining the Eurasian Economic and Legal Agreements.
