Semnan Province is a land rich in blessings and divine resources, with these resources and mines spread from the scorched deserts and dry southern plains to the captivating mountains and forests in the north.
It seems that everywhere in this land, a gem has been entrusted in the soil, waiting for our searching hands to unearth it and reveal God’s power in every fragment of it.
According to a report by the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA), Semnan, if you have traveled along the roads of this vast province, more than any other industry or workshop, what catches the travelers’ eyes along the roadsides, on the mountain slopes, and in the scenic deserts, are the gypsum mines. Approximately 6% of the world’s gypsum is produced in this province, which is enough reason to reflect more on this white dust that playfully rises with the wind above the gypsum factories and disappears into the blue sky, earning Semnan the title of the “Gypsum Capital of the World.”
What follows is a brief report on the capabilities of the gypsum industry in Semnan and the challenges faced by the active members of this industry in the province.
The Development Agent of Semnan’s Gypsum Industry Cluster in an Interview with ISNA:
Semnan Province Holds the First Rank in Gypsum Mines and Reserves in the Country / 80% of Iran’s Gypsum and 6% of the World’s Gypsum is Produced in Semnan.
A member of the Coordinating Council of the Knowledge and Industry of Gypsum and Salt and the development agent of the gypsum industry cluster in Semnan said that Semnan Province, in general, and Semnan City, in particular, hold the top rank in gypsum mines and reserves in the country.
In an interview with ISNA’s Semnan correspondent, Davood Maddah said: “With more than 41 gypsum production factories, Semnan has become the main base for gypsum processing in the country, meaning Semnan City ranks first in both mining and processing of gypsum in the country.”
He added: “There are over 50 active gypsum mines in Semnan City alone, and the city supplies 6% of the world’s gypsum and 80% of Iran’s gypsum, making gypsum the dominant industry in the province.”
For the Gypsum Industry to Progress, We Must Move Towards New Products
Maddah continued: “If the gypsum industry’s position is to continue improving and if income in this sector is to increase, we must necessarily move toward producing new gypsum products.”
This member of the National Gypsum Commodity Table mentioned that upgrading existing technology to new technologies and producing new gypsum-based products are two key solutions to elevate the gypsum industry. He added that in the long-term, we must focus on producing modern gypsum products such as gypsum panels, fire-resistant gypsum walls, water-resistant gypsum walls, gypsum fiber optics, nano-gypsum, and more.
Maddah pointed out that the concentration of gypsum production and processing units is mainly in Semnan City, where 41 production units are active. Of these, six units operate traditionally, while 35 units use industrial methods for gypsum production.
